Having the right build is essential to progressing in Raid: Shadow Legends. Sometimes just having the right champion can be beneficial but great gear opens the door to making more champions viable when filling a specific role. Building champions effectively is the first step to creating synergy amongst champions which will in turn enable team compositions that are reliable.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Understanding Champion Types&nbsp;

The first step to building a RAID Champion is to understand the different types of champions available. There are four types of champions: Attack, Defense, HP, and Support. Each champion scales their damage based on the attribute specified in their skill. Champions can scale damage based on Attack, Defense, HP, Enemy Max HP, and Speed. Some champions may have skills that scale damage from a combination of these attributes. Some champions may have conditional effects that allow them to do more damage based on a condition specified in the skill. For these reasons, it is important to thoroughly read the champions skills before building them.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Choosing the right champion to build:&nbsp;

Each area of the game requires champions with specific skills in order to complete it effectively. In most cases it is important to have a balance of support, damage, and crowd control in your team composition. Understand the role you want each champion to play because that will directly influence the gear that you use for them. Affinity is also something to note when selecting champions. There are four affinities: Void, Magic, Force, and Spirit. While Void is neutral, there is a hierarchy with the other affinities:&nbsp;&nbsp;

Magic is stronger than Spirit&nbsp;

Spirit is stronger than Force&nbsp;

Force is stronger than Magic&nbsp;

Selecting champions that are weak affinity for certain areas will make them a liability in your team composition and influence the consistency of the results you are able to get. You don’t want to build a team of Magic affinity champions to complete a stage full of Force affinity opponents. Additionally, champions that are weak affinity have a 35% chance to land a weak hit. A weak hit does -30% damage. Debuffs cannot be placed on weak hits unless specified in the champions skill description. Champions that are strong affinity have an extra 15% chance to inflict a critical hit. The critical hit chance is reduced by 15% for champions that are weak affinity.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Leveling Champions:&nbsp;

Leveling and ascending a champion to 6 stars is the first step to getting the best build possible. You can level champions by earning experience points (XP). Champions will earn a certain amount of XP when completing battles. The campaign is one of the most efficient areas for leveling champions. The recommended stages for leveling champions in the campaign are Brimstone Path stage 12-3 on Brutal difficulty and Brimstone Path stage 12-6 on Nightmare difficulty.&nbsp; In order to equip a champion with an amulet they must be at least ascended at rank 5. To equip a champion with a banner they must be at least ascended at rank 6. You want to be able to equip these accessories in order to maximize the stats you can achieve on a given champion.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Gearing Champions&nbsp;

Equipping your champion with the right artifacts and accessories is critical to their success in battle. There are six&nbsp;types of artifacts and three types of accessories: weapons, helmets, shields, gauntlets, chests,&nbsp;boots, rings, amulets, and banners. Each piece of gear provides different bonuses to your champion's stats, such as increased attack, defense, hp, accuracy, resist, crit rate, crit damage, or speed. Each piece of gear will have a range of primary and substat values. Weapons will always have Attack as the primary stat. Helmets will always have HP as the primary stat. Shields will always have Defense as the primary stat. The maximum primary and substat value a piece of gear can achieve is based on both the rank and the rarity. When equipping your champion, it is important to consider their strengths and weaknesses and choose gear that complements their abilities.&nbsp;

Building Damage Dealers:&nbsp;

Damage dealers typically have similar builds no matter how they scale their damage. You will want to focus on the stat&nbsp;that the champion scales its damage from. This will be specified in the champions skill description. Below are recommended stats to look for on pieces for an attack based damage dealer.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Defense or HP based nukers will have the same build as above. Just replace atk% with def% or hp% based on how the champion scales damage.

The primary stat on the glove will ideally be crit damage. If you are in the early game the primary stats on the glove will likely be crit rate. Ideally your damage dealer will have 100% crit rate and as much crit damage as possible. If you use a speed boot you can get the atk% substat on the boot as well. If you use atk% as a primary stat for the boot you cannot get it as a substat. Additionally you cannot get atk% as a substat on shields nor can you get def% as a substat on weapons. The speed of the champion will be determined by the area used and the team compositions. These things will determine whether you need to have the nuker faster or slower. Some damage dealers also have the ability to land debuffs which you may need. Accuracy would be a secondary stat to focus on after maximizing their damage output.&nbsp;

Building Support Champions&nbsp;

Support champions are usually in 2 types of builds. They will either be faster or slower depending on the requirements of the area they are being used in. In either case you will want them to be as tanky as possible so they can stay alive. Their primary purpose is to hold your comp together by healing or reviving the other champions when needed. Below are recommended stats to look for on pieces for a support champion.&nbsp;&nbsp;

CC champions provide debuffs and turn meter control allowing you to take team compositions to the ultimate level of synergy. Many things can be beaten over time with a decent support and damage dealer. CC champions make the jobs of your support and damage dealer easier and generally allow for faster runs. Below are recommended stats to look for on pieces for a CC champion.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Upgrading Skills&nbsp;

Skill Tomes are very hard to come by in the game but using them on champions is almost essential in most cases. Some champions are viable without books but the majority of them need them in order to be reliable. Some champions will only be used for particular skills and won’t require you to fully book them. If you get lucky and book the skill you need it is&nbsp;okay to save the rest of your books for a champion that needs them more. You want to use tomes on champions with skills that get&nbsp;cooldowns and increased chances to land debuffs.&nbsp;Extra damage can also be obtained from booking a champion. Booking a damage dealer can greatly improve their damage output. Champions that don’t get these things from using skill tomes on them tend to not usually need them to be effective. More times than not a champion will need to be booked. &nbsp;

Masteries:

The Masteries you select for a champion will depend on the role that champion is filling in your team composition. There are Offense, Defense, and Support trees you can use in order to make your champions more viable. Only two of the three can be used at one time for any champion so be sure you select the right masteries. You do get one free reset if you want to start over but it costs 150 gems to reset any time after that. The rebellion’s leaders were disturbed by his cooperation with Zezo, yet Toshiro ignored all their pleas he desist. He slipped into obsession, recusing himself from strategic meetings in favor of capturing more Demonspawn. Even his veteran warriors were disturbed, coming to only follow him out of fear that the slightest misstep would see Toshiro kill them. Such training was difficult to master, however, and it did little to replace the Rhythm for most of the ambassadors who would be leaving their homeland. One of their number, however, proved exceptionally talented… but she would also prove the dangers of consorting with outsiders. Saerlaith departed for the great mage-city of Ireth, hoping to attend its legendary Academy. Most Sylvan ambassadors were sent to establish ties of trade or alliances, but Saerlaith had an altogether more important – and more dangerous – mission: she was to use the resources of Ireth to study the nature of the Rhythm itself, hoping that she could find a way to replicate its magic beyond the confines of the Mistwood. Arion and Valkanen were the most brilliant and promising young mages in all of Ireth, and they hated each other. Exceedingly arrogant, the posturing in their competition to be greatest mage in the academy bordered on unbearable to anyone close to them. When the two men discovered Saerlaith – her talent, her beauty, her influence in the Mistwood – she became the latest and most important object of their contest. Her most infamous feat was to seduce Belanor, a respected High Elf administrator who had been serving on the Wall. The Aravians claim that she used supernatural means to steal his heart, or else she holds blackmail material as leverage over him. They hesitate to countenance the possibility that Belanor simply fell in love with her and joined her of his own will, even though they know in their hearts that it is a likely possibility. With these capabilities she is easily able to loft herself over the towering Wall and then disappear over the other side, and twice as she did so she encountered Belanor. After reporting his sightings, Belanor was noted to grow distant and distracted in his work. When Zavia came to him for the third time, he disappeared along with her. Both Belanor and Zavia became outlaws and bounty hunters were dispatched to track them down. For many months, Aravian trackers searched for the couple in vain, patrolling the Wall on both sides and investigating possible hideouts in Aravia and Durham Forest, to no avail. Despite the increased surveillance and security, Zavia has still made regular crossings of the Wall and, to the chagrin of the Aravians, Belanor has been spotted by her side. Somehow he too has acquired a pair of feathery wings, his snowy-white to Zavia’s gray. The Aravians are baffled and increasingly concerned – if the wings are not unique, but can be bestowed by some unknown process, they could prove the nucleus of a dangerous, body-modifying cult. They imagined a whole gang of winged bandits able to come and go as they pleased. Surely, they assumed, Zavia has been coming and going for some unstated purpose besides merely flaunting her capabilities. Perhaps she is starting just such a cult already, or organizing rebel cells across the border. But the most ruthless investigators of Aravia can find no conspiracies laid down by the Dark Elf intruder. Rumor has it that Zavia and Belanor have been captured by the Aravian authorities, possibly more than once, only to escape later. It is said they were held in chains awaiting their execution, but when their jailors came to escort them to the chopping block, they found the shackles undone and the cell empty, undisturbed by violence, as though the prisoners had simply vanished. All that was left behind was a pair of feathers – one dark and one light, as if to symbolize the schism of the Elves. Yet, as Zavia proclaims, the schism could be mended if only the Elves could see beyond their towering wall. Such an attitude is not uncommon among the High Elves, but it is a seed that in some bears dark fruits. While Elhain became a hero of the Light, what would have become of her had she allowed her sense of superiority to lead her down a different path? If she met her match, might it have cut to the very core of her being? It was during the Conclaves of the Elves that Elhain encountered a Dark Elf who seemed every bit as knowledgeable and capable as she was. Named Kael, he matched Elhain during both the negotiations and the competitions that acted as interludes between talks. Elhain became intrigued by Kael, but what would have happened if she had treated her first defeat at the Dark Elf’s hands as a personal affront? Unable to accept that she had come off second-best, Elhain might have convinced herself that her rival had used dark magics to gain an edge. Kael’s supposed evil and duplicity seemed to be confirmed when he was later involved in an attempt to assassinate Queen Eva of Aravia. After he escaped, Elhain seized the opportunity for revenge and swore before her ruler that she would track down and slay the would-be regicide. So began Elhain’s hunt. She sought Kael first in Durham, but after several vicious encounters, was no closer to slaying him. Frustrated beyond reason, Elhain searched for something that would give her the advantage. One particular deal saw her surrender a fragment of her soul in exchange for a rime-coated bow whose arrows could pierce the very spirits of its targets. As her hunt stretched into decades, she finally made the most terrible deal. She realized that she needed power and longevity if she was to finally bring Kael to heel. Seeing little other choice, she embraced Undeath and through it, gave fealty to the Shadow God. In her arrogance, she believed such taint would not corrupt her. It was a tool only. Elhain eventually succeeded in her quest. Without need for sleep or sustenance, she tracked down Kael and ended him with an arrow. Only as he fell did Elhain appreciate the depth of what she had done. Victory had become her sole reason for existence, and now that it had been won, nothing else remained. Filled with dark ennui, Elhain might have ended her own existence over the body of her foe, but her own arrogance stopped her. She had merely done what needed to be done, or so she told herself. Siroth soothed her anguish and fed her convictions. He suggested she show everyone how much she had sacrificed, and the true extent of the superiority she had attained. She turned back for Aravia. It is fortunate indeed for the people of the High Elf nation that these events never occurred. In a way, many people of Asgard believed he had, for some of his animal familiars always stayed behind like winged and clawed stewards. The Fae were sure Odin could communicate with the creatures, even seeing and hearing events through their eyes and ears. For centuries, the Redspikes Fae flourished. Early in the Age of Treachery another Fae joined them, called Loki. Quick of wit and sharp of tongue, he was well-liked by almost all. He delighted the young with his shape-shifting abilities. He listened to fellow roamer Odin's lessons for hours in attentive silence, and in return taught the Wisest Fae of distant lands. What should have been a fruitful relationship however was not quite that for Odin. He was suspicious. Loki never fully laid out his life's story, and his uncanny ability to always find the perfect thing to say brought much doubt to Odin's mind. When Loki disappeared from Asgard without warning, Odin was sad, for he would no longer hear tales of distant places and creatures, troubled because Loki could cause much mischief – or worse – elsewhere, and relieved that the trickster Fae would no longer be an influential presence in Asgard – all at the same time. Loki had been gone for decades when the War of Kaerok erupted with the armies of Frostheim surged from the Redspikes into the lowlands of Anhelt, razing towns and cities by the dozen. Despite the ferocity of the assault, the Free Cities of Kaerok were united by Acelin the Stalwart, who rallied their disparate armies and, alongside the Elves and Sacred Order, invaded and conquered Frostheim. The Sacred Order in particular fought to quash the myriad spiritualities that thrived in the Redspikes, and saw this included the Frostheimers love of the Fae. They put dozens of hall-keeps to the torch and killed and displaced hundreds of Fae. Asgard only escaped discovery thanks to Freyja Fateweaver, who cast a great blizzard-shroud over the region to shield it from mortal eyes and blades. Thus isolated, Asgard declined in the years that followed and many Fae departed. Odin took to wandering the empty halls. Where there was once life and conversation, there was quiet. Where there was once life and growth, there was decay. These were new experiences for Odin, ones he could not enjoy. Centuries passed, and memories of a bustling Asgard all but faded, including that of the mischievous trickster that once frequented Odin's great hall-keep. When Freyja suddenly experienced a prophecy pertaining to Loki, the Fire Knight, and the Waters of Life, Odin was stunned and his faith in his own wisdom was shattered. He had had no clue that the Trickster was capable of such catastrophic foolishness. He had thought Loki was untrustworthy, perhaps dangerous to mortals if he was so inclined, but not capable of initiating events that could plunge Teleria into oblivion. Cold fury took Odin.
